Cattle ranching is a fifth generation endeavor for the Boekenoogen family and is still going strong to this day. The family cattle ranch is located in the mountains of upper Carmel Valley. The ranch runs grass fed, all natural certified Black Angus cattle and is a cow/calf operation with roughly 300 mother cows. This is a fall calving operation with all babies being born from September 1st – November 1st.
Calves are raised and then weaned from their mothers in the summer months of the following year then sold to buyers of other ranches or feedlots. September comes and the process starts all over again. Cattle ranching involves a lot of hard work but it has always been a passion and joy of the Boekenoogen family.
